Our Story

For generations Japanese pearl divers have braved the bitter salt waters of the Pacific Ocean in search of one of Earth’s most precious gems; the Akoya pearl.

Traditionally, those that dive for these pearls are referred to as ‘Ama’ (海女), translated literally to mean "sea women". A predominantly female order, these skilled artisans harvest Akoya pearls during the harshest winter months from December to March to obtain the highest quality specimens.

It is this commitment to skill, beauty, and quality above all else that has guided Akoymi since its inception. For as long as the Ama of Japan continue to brave the most unforgiving conditions in their quest for perfection, we shall do the same.
